Stuart Roach – CEO - Profile

In 20 years as a sports journalist, Stuart Roach has experienced every genre of the media industry.

Starting out in regional newspapers, Stuart also worked as a writer and sub-editor for a number of UK national newspapers, including the Telegraph, Daily Mirror, The Sun, Express, Daily Mail and Daily Star.

Having also gained experience in Radio and Television, Stuart now works for BBC Sport as a broadcaster and editor. As senior football writer, Stuart was the BBC website’s man in South Korea for the 2002 World Cup, covering 15 games from the tournament including all six played by the host nation.

Last year’s World Cup in Germany saw Stuart move into a managerial role, overseeing the BBC Website’s World Cup launch site and a number of the innovations which enhanced the coverage of the tournament. This project earned Stuart a BBC News and Sport Innovation award, adding to the 2004 Bafta Award and 2002 Bafta nomination Stuart and the BBC website team had previously received.

Stuart also covered the 2001 Uefa Cup final between Liverpool and Alaves for BBC Sport and can now be heard as a weekend presenter for BBC Television’s Score Saturday programme.

Stuart’s BBC project work also saw him manage the interactive arm of the 2004 Sport Relief campaign, which raised £15m for sport-related charities in the UK.

His exeprience allowed Stuart to form his own company, Red Pilot Communications, which now boasts links with The Premier League and a number of leading clubs and players in English football. The company also compiles and supplies columns on music, sport and travel, as well as handling the public relations accounts for clients in widely varying professional fields.

A passionate writer and skilled orator, Stuart’s first book, Reading Between The Lines – A Season Of Dreams, was released to critical acclaim in June.
